Description
Treat your furry friend to a beautiful, bakery-style cake made with wholesome ingredients like oat flour and mashed bananas. This quick-bake dessert features a creamy Greek yogurt frosting that looks professional while remaining completely dog-safe and nutritious.
Ingredients
- 1 cup oat flour (ground whole oats)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup grated carrot
- 1/2 cup mashed banana
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter (for frosting)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line two 4-inch cake tins with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the oat flour and baking powder until well combined.
- Add the grated carrot, mashed banana, 1/4 cup peanut butter, and egg to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two tins and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, and cornstarch until the mixture is smooth and stable.
- Spread the frosting between the cake layers and over the top, then decorate with your dog’s favorite treats.
Notes
Always double-check your peanut butter label to ensure it does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. To ensure the best visual result, let the cake layers cool entirely so the yogurt frosting doesn’t melt or slide off. For an extra smooth finish, you can lightly sift the oat flour before mixing to remove any coarse grains.
