Description

Transform a standard box of cake mix into a decadent, bakery-quality dessert by incorporating rich additions like full-fat sour cream. This express baking method guarantees a velvety, moist crumb that rivals from-scratch recipes with significantly less effort and time.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Cake Mix (white, yellow, or chocolate)
  • Water (as specified on box)
  • Vegetable Oil (as specified on box)
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Full-Fat Sour Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line two 9-inch round ceramic pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract.
  3. Blend with a hand mixer on high speed until the batter is smooth and thick, ensuring you scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for approximately 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting and serving.

Notes

To ensure the most uniform texture, allow your refrigerated ingredients to reach room temperature before mixing. If you are using dark or non-stick metal pans instead of ceramic, check for doneness a few minutes early as these materials tend to conduct heat more aggressively.
