Description

This Chocolate Ganache Cake is a decadent, single-layer masterpiece designed for chocolate lovers who need a quick dessert fix. The combination of Dutch-processed cocoa and hot coffee creates a deep flavor profile, while a silky two-ingredient glaze adds the perfect fudgy finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot coffee or water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and prepare an 8-inch round cake pan with non-stick spray and parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate container, whisk the buttermilk, hot coffee, oil, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, whisking on low until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then prepare the ganache by pouring heated heavy cream over chocolate chips and stirring until glossy.
  7. Turn the cake onto a rack, pour the warm ganache over the top, and allow it to set slightly before serving.

Notes

To ensure a perfectly level cake, avoid over-beating the batter once you combine the wet and dry ingredients. If you do not have buttermilk on hand, you can make a quick substitute by adding a teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar to regular milk and letting it sit for five minutes. For the best ganache consistency, use high-quality chocolate chips and stir slowly to avoid creating air bubbles.
