Description

A sophisticated canine-safe sponge that balances the structural integrity of whole wheat flour with the natural moisture of shredded carrots. This recipe ensures a tender crumb and a robust shape, making it the perfect technical bake for a special pet celebration.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (must be xylitol-free)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 6-cup ring mold or fluted tube pan with dog-safe oil.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, honey, peanut butter, oil, and vanilla extract until a smooth emulsion forms.
  3. Gently fold the shredded carrots into the wet mixture to ensure even distribution of moisture.
  4. Sift the whole wheat flour and baking soda together, then fold into the batter using a spatula just until no flour streaks remain.
  5. Spoon the batter into the prepared pan and bake for approximately 40 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cake in the pan on a wire rack for exactly 10 minutes before inverting to release and cooling completely.

Notes

To ensure the best results, use natural peanut butter with no added salt or sugar. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, you can substitute the oil with unsweetened applesauce for a lower-fat version that remains moist and structurally sound.
