Description

Accelerate your next celebration with this vibrant F1-themed cake that uses a golden butter shortcut for maximum flavor with minimum effort. Featuring a smooth apricot-tinted Vienna cream and fun liquorice accents, this moist dessert is a guaranteed winner for racing fans of all ages.

Ingredients

  • 440g (15.5oz) packet Golden Butter Cake Mix
  • 125g (4oz) softened butter
  • 1.5 cups icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Apricot food colouring
  • Darrell Lea Allsorts liquorice
  • Batch 37 Fresh Liquorice tube
  • Chocolate sprinkles
  • Assorted sweets and candies

Instructions

  1. Bake the golden butter cake mix in a greased rectangular pan following the package instructions, then allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until pale and fluffy, then gradually add the icing sugar and milk, beating until smooth.
  3. Add a few drops of apricot food colouring to the butter mixture and stir until you achieve a uniform racing orange hue.
  4. Trim the cooled cake into a sleek car shape, placing a smaller rectangular section on top to serve as the cockpit, using a bit of icing to secure it.
  5. Use a spatula to spread the apricot icing evenly over the entire surface of the car.
  6. Press the liquorice pieces into place for wheels and bumpers, then use chocolate sprinkles and assorted candies to create the track and driver details.

Notes

For the cleanest edges when carving your car, place the cake in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes to firm up before cutting. Using a crumb coat—a thin initial layer of icing that is allowed to set—will help you achieve a perfectly smooth and professional finish with the final layer of apricot frosting.
