Description

This delightful sheet cake combines the professional crumb of a high-end bakery with the simplicity of home baking. Featuring a unique dual-frosting finish of chocolate and vanilla, it provides the perfect moist and tender treat to celebrate Mom without spending hours in the kitchen.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Confectioners’ sugar (for frosting)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate frosting)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a stand mixer on high speed for approximately 5 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Whisk together the egg whites, milk, and vanilla extract in one bowl, and sift the flours, baking powder, and salt together in a separate bowl.
  4. With the mixer on low, add one-third of the dry ingredients followed by half of the liquid mixture; repeat the pattern and finish with the remaining dry ingredients.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Prepare the chocolate and vanilla buttercreams by beating butter and confectioners’ sugar with their respective flavorings, then frost the completely cooled cake.

Notes

For the cleanest slices, use a sharp knife dipped in hot water and wiped dry between every cut. If you want to make this ahead of time, the cake base can be baked a day early and stored tightly wrapped at room temperature before frosting the morning of your celebration.
