Description

Create a delightful character-themed dessert with this moist, cocoa-infused sheet cake layered with rich Nutella frosting. This express method allows you to bake and decorate a professional-looking Minion without the stress of complex carving.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • Yellow and blue food coloring
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate melts
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate melts
  • 1 circular cookie

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 Celsius) and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with foil, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; in a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, followed by the vanilla, stirring well after each addition.
  4. Mix the cocoa powder into the wet base, then alternately incorporate the flour mixture and the milk until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cake completely on a wire rack, then use the foil handles to lift it out and cut the cake in half lengthwise.
  7. Prepare the frosting by beating together additional butter and powdered sugar, then mix one cup of this with the Nutella.
  8. Spread the Nutella frosting on one cake half, stack the second half on top, and decorate the exterior with yellow and blue frosting, using the cookie and melted chocolate for the eyes and goggles.

Notes

For the smoothest decorating experience, ensure your cake is completely chilled before applying the final layers of yellow and blue frosting. If the chocolate for the goggles begins to set too quickly while piping, a quick 5-second burst in the microwave will return it to a workable consistency.
