Description

This Orange Creamsicle Cake recipe delivers a wonderfully moist, citrus-infused sponge topped with a light, cloud-like vanilla cream frosting. It perfectly captures the nostalgic flavor of the classic frozen treat, making it an ideal dessert for warm weather gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Orange Cake Mix
  • Fresh Orange Zest
  • Orange Juice
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Instant Vanilla Pudding mix
  • Cold Milk
  • Whipped Topping (such as Cool Whip)
  • Cream Cheese, softened (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take time to grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or two 8-inch round pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix with the eggs, oil, and orange juice. Add the freshly grated orange zest. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  3. Pour the batter into your prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a thin skewer comes out clean.
  4. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before proceeding.
  5. While the cake rests, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until it thickens into a custard.
  6. Gently fold the whipped topping and softened cream cheese (if using) into the custard until smooth.
  7. Spread the frosting generously over the cooled cake. Garnish with a final sprinkle of orange zest or a few candied orange slices.

Notes

Due to the whipped topping and pudding-based frosting, this orange creamsicle cake must be stored in the refrigerator. For ease of cutting and the most refreshing flavor, serve the cake chilled. If you are using round pans to create a layer cake, be sure to use a serrated knife to level the tops of the cakes before applying the frosting.
